Catskill Carriage Road Project

Description:

Growing up and visiting the Catskill mountains every summer, I feel a sense of sentimentality on the road up to Tannersville, New York. Winding through the gully of two mountains, the road passes by Kaaterskill falls. The falls are a sight to behold, so much so that it often grinds the traffic on the two-lane road to a halt. The Catskills were once a haven for artists, flocking to the Hudson River School. I attempted to capture that history in a scene, replacing the state route with an 1800s carriage road. I’m extremely proud of the length that I went to pack every corner with detail. Small water droplets rushing over the falls, the foxhound bounding in stride with the horses, and every crevice of each rock, I wanted the drawing to capture it all!
