A large-format pen and ink drawing reimagining the road past Kaaterskill Falls as an 1800s scene — riders, foxhound, waterfall, and every crevice of rock.
Growing up visiting the Catskill mountains every summer, I feel a deep sentimentality on the road up to Tannersville. Winding through the gully of two mountains, the road passes Kaaterskill Falls — a sight so striking it often grinds two-lane traffic to a halt.
The Catskills were once a haven for artists drawn to the Hudson River School. I tried to capture that history in a scene, replacing the state route with an 1800s carriage road. Water droplets rushing over the falls, the foxhound bounding in stride with the horses, every crevice of each rock — I wanted it to hold up to close inspection.
